After studying art history in Leiden, Marike van Roon started her career at the University of Amsterdam in 1988. She was curator of University History and deputy chief curator at the Special Collections of the UvA. Her tasks included coordinating access and digitization at the Heritage Division. Marike van Roon was appointed Chief Curator of the Special Collections of the University of Amsterdam in 2016 and Chief Curator of Special Collections and Allard Pierson Museum in 2018. Marike van Roon graduated in Leiden with a thesis titled Gold, Silver and Silk. Catholic textiles in the Netherlands 1830-1965 (2010). She received the J.W. Frederiksprijs 2012 for the best publication in the field of applied arts in 2009-2011.
