Sebastiaan Broere

Biograpy

Sebastiaan Broere (1989) holds bachelor degrees in history and philosophy from Utrecht University and master degrees from Utrecht University (History and Philosophy of Science) and University of California, Los Angeles (History). His research interests include the history of psychiatry and asylum care, colonial science, and the history of postcolonial agricultural development. Under the heading of ‘Decolonizing Knowledge: Postcoloniality and The Making of Modern Indonesia’s Knowledge Culture, 1945-1970,’ he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Amsterdam. Sebastiaan’s dissertation narrates the connected histories of scientific expertise, food production, and postcolonial identity in Sukarno-era Indonesia. In addition, he is an editor for the history of science blog Shells and Pebbles.
